Being thankful isn’t all about what’s going right. It’s about finding a little light in this moment we’re in.
During Thanksgiving week, we might gather around a table to share a meal with family and friends. But there’s more. Whether we are alone or in a group, we also have a chance to give thanks for another year of living and loving. My wish for you is that you have so many things to be grateful for that you can’t get your heart around it all. However, if this is not your finest hour, that’s okay too. Being thankful isn’t all about what’s going right. It’s about finding a little light in this moment we’re in. The reverberation of gratitude expressed now, in spite of all we are feeling, is a gift for the future. Like an affirmation, it changes our trajectory and we find ourselves in a new story—one that transcends the darkness.
Gratitude now becomes a light, a beacon of hope. It shines into the darkness and illuminates the next step and the next. It brings the dawn to the dark night, takes some fear out of the fire. It’s a lantern, a candle, a ray of sunshine that shows us the rewards of faith.
Gratitude now becomes a vehicle, our wind and our wings. It provides momentum when our lives have stalled. It lifts us up so we can catch the draft and sail effortlessly for a few miles. It’s a jump start, an angel wing, a breath that gets us from here to there.
Gratitude now becomes an offering, our prayer and our song. It speaks of promise and sings notes that harmonize with our souls. It connects us to our highest selves and with the flow of grace. It’s a familiar melody, a whisper, a prayer from the heart.
Gratitude now becomes food for our soul and connection with spirit. It feeds us with laughter and reminds us of our strength. It nourishes us when we are starving for good. It’s sweet contentment, an inner smile and a reminder to give thanks for this moment we’re in.
