Respect is a much-neglected virtue.
Respect is personal space.
When we do not give ourselves respect, we open doors and windows
in different aspects of our being, and these spaces fill up
and become the lack of respect from others towards us.
The key to respect lies within ourselves, within each of us.
We can never blame another for their lack of respect.
Disrespect towards others always stems from a lack of respect for ourselves.
Respect is essential for survival.
Respect is a form of self-love.
This doesn’t mean we don’t welcome others, but we welcome them as close to us, not within ourselves.
Respect always begets respect.
And respect has a great need for respect.
When you show someone respect,
that person feels valued and understood. Expressions of respect, which are acts of love, always awaken a greater sense of self-respect
in those who receive them.
Respect admires what is and lets it live.
Respect receives the beauty of the other and allows that beauty to live and develop without seeking to possess it.
When two forms of respect coexist, love is born.
Respects walk side by side, never interpenetrating.
This does not mean that bodies cannot join,
that emotions cannot brush against each other,
that thoughts cannot ride together across vast spaces,
but that there is always room for each being
to develop in its essence,
for each being to continue to recognize itself.
