Blessings for Situations
As we have said elsewhere, blessing is a practice that applies to practically every single situation in normal life. It is difficult to imagine a situation which one could not bless. Even in extreme situations of despondency, horror or whatever, there is always an angle from which one can bless.
It is important to define very clearly what blessing is and is not, as some people still seem to be confused on the topic.
BLESSING IS a beholding of the divine perfection of the person, object or situation, which you bless, whatever the material appearance. For instance, a couple of years ago, in my morning silent time, I literally received an order from a Higher Power, “Love Putin.” I had to work on this for quite a while, but now I feel authentic brotherly love for the man and bless him with authentic joy. (And remember that one of humanity’s greatest avatars told us to love our enemies.) I know of some amazing instances of human relations turned around completely by this practice. One of my favorite blessing practices is blessing people on the bus (I don’t have a car): I just look them in the face and silently say: “I really bless you in your divine perfection.” You can do that looking at the news and SINCERELY bless someone you really don’t like. The dimension of sincerity is a key factor in blessing.
A basic premise of my life is that WHATEVER happens in our lives, is happening to teach us a needed lesson. Imagine it starts raining day after day just when you were going to leave on a vacation. You can bless the weather and ask to know the lesson the universe is requesting you to learn. (And remember, umbrella merchants are rubbing their hands in glee!)
Blessing is NEVER condoning a negative material situation, whatever it may be. When you bless e.g., someone like Putin, you are not condoning his policies in Ukraine, you are on the contrary sending an authentic love energy which will help him change them. You would not bless an earthquake for the lessons those who suffer from it are to learn, but you bless the survivors in their courage, trust in good, etc.
